Which Industry Suits You Most As A Beauty Therapist?

Different sectors and industries are always on the lookout for beauty therapists. Some of these industries include fashion, television and film, and retail. However, before you rush out and sign up for the first makeup course you come across, it is critical that you have an inkling of what to expect once you graduate. This article takes a look at the duties, expected working hours and working conditions in each of the industries mentioned.

The Fashion Industry

Beauty therapists in this industry are expected to work on models in preparation for live runway shows, photo shoots and advertisements. You can expect to find a clear demarcation of roles between makeup and hair with each department run by different artists/teams. You can also choose to work as a freelancer or work as part of a modeling agency, magazine or fashion label team. Jobs in the fashion industry require that you have high artistic abilities, pay attention to detail, understand the effects of lighting on makeup and expect to work under pressure.

The Television And Film Industry

In the majority of scenarios, television and film beauty therapists are expected to work out of purpose-built studios or on-location. This means that you should expect yourself to work outdoors or in makeshift structures and at odd times of the night or day. Traditionally, you will be expected to work as part of a team that ensures that all performers have appropriate hairstyles and makeup before they step in front of the camera. In this industry, you always have to be on standby and be prepared to carry out several touch-ups in the course of a shoot or live recording session.

The Retail Industry

In retail, most makeup artists choose to work full-time and sometimes end up promoting and selling makeup products at events, shows and stores. The retail industry requires that you have the skills to answer your clients' questions, offer makeovers, demonstrate the application processes and sell products (often on commission basis). If you choose the retail industry, do not be surprised to find that many brands have their own courses they teach in-house to their prospective artists. Other places within the retail industry that offer lucrative opportunities include spas and salons.

In a nutshell, these are the most popular industries where makeup artists can work. The area you decide to choose depends largely on your career objective, opportunities available and your lifestyle. For example, if you are looking for a typical 9 to 5 job, with a regular wage, and time for a social life, the television and film industry is certainly not for you. Looking for a new uniform

Our netball team has a budget for a new uniform at last--after much begging. We've had an old uniform for years, and it's a little embarrassing to see the cool uniforms some of our competitors have while we play in something straight out of the 1980s. We are trying to decide the exact format of the uniform by looking at some of the cool uniforms of different teams around the world, both from the netball world as well as other sports. If you are also looking at netball uniform options then this blog should be a good start for you.
